Disneyland Malaysia?
For the past few days, there have been rumours about Disneyland Malaysia. It was said that the new theme park would be built in Johor, the most southern state of Malaysia. At first, I quite like the idea of having a Disneyland in Malaysia. I mean, that way I don’t have to go to Hong Kong to experience Disneyland because I can just take a drive to Johor and voila, Disneyland will be right in front of me. Having Disneyland in Johor is good since it will compliment the soon-to-be-built casino in Singapore. Imagine all the parents will go and have good time at the casino in Singapore and their kids can spend their time in Disneyland. That sounds really great.
But, will it be that great? Let us take a look at Disneyland Paris and Disneyland Hong Kong. Disneyland Paris has been around for quite some time and they are facing a very big problem at the moment, which is financial problem. I mean, that Disneyland in Paris is not making money at all. The reason for this problem is, to manage a theme park like Disneyland takes a lot of money. But they cannot charge a high price or people just wouldn’t want to come. So, they rely heavily on the revenue gained from merchandises and food and beverages. But this too proved to be a problem because most people brought their own food into the park because they know the prices of the food and beverages in the park are expensive. And Disneyland Hong Kong, which was opened last year, is actually getting lower number of visitors than expected. I’m not saying that Disneyland Hong Kong will face the same problem like Disneyland Paris but I’m just trying to tell you why we the government should think twice if they want to build a Disneyland in Malaysia. I might be wrong but this is what I think. If they still want to build it, good then. If not, so be it.
I’m just glad that my exam is finally over. Now I can concentrate on other things like my holiday to Paris and Padang. Haha. And of course, I have one last assignment that needs to be done. Ciao.
P.S. My information on Disneyland Paris was based on my findings last December. So, things might have changed now.
