This Just In.

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announced that Malaysia will not build a new bridge to replace the Johor Causeway. There is only one word to describe this decision – stupid. Why don’t they want to build this new bridge? Were Malaysian Government pressured by the Singaporean Government? I mean, the Malaysian Government has built a new custom and immigration complex to accommodate the new bridge. And now with the complex almost ready, the bridge is will not be built. What will happen to the new complex then? Will it be turned into a new shopping mall?

I have nothing against the Singaporean Government because they have every right to object to the construction of the new bridge. But Malaysia also has every right to build a new bridge on Malaysia’s water. I am just so disappointed with this decision. I hope the government will have a very good explanation for this. According to BERNAMA, "The government's decision was made after taking into account the voices and sentiments of the Malaysian people as a whole especially on the supply of sand and air space."

Only a few months ago the PM said that Malaysia will continue to build the new bridge on Malaysia’s side. Today, that same PM said the new bridge will not be a reality. I wonder what made him changed his decision after a couple of months. Ciao.
