Mahathir Strikes Back!

Malaysia’s former PM, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad seems to make some scary statements lately. OK, when he gave a speech at a conference last year, he said something like this.

“Government is very much needed in society. And even if the government is very dictatorial, that is better than not having government at all.”

And that is scary. I mean, is he endorsing dictatorship? Well, actually his view is just an echo of a view made by an English philosopher, Thomas Hobbes who wrote ‘Leviathan’, which was based on the English Revolution. But still, when that statement came from someone who had been the PM for 22 years, it does sound scary. He made this statement when asked about Iraq’s situation before and after Saddam Hussein.

Then, earlier this year when he gave a comment on Malaysia-Singapore relationship, he said something like this.

“If we buy jet fighters from Russia, they won’t care if we want to attack Singapore. But if we buy the jet fighters from the US, they will have so many conditions like we cannot attack Singapore.”

What the hell was that? I know that he was talking about why we should buy the jet fighters from Russia and not the US because the latter will put so many conditions with the purchase. But, why mention Singapore? I mean, he could use other word like ‘enemy’ or ‘oppressor’. Seriously speaking, thank God this guy is no longer PM.
Anyway, whatever he said will just go down the drain because he is after all the EX-PM. I mean, in politics, when you are an EX-something, you are nothing. Just look at Al Gore and you will know what I mean. Right now, he is venturing into a new field – entertainment. His film-documentary titled ‘The Inconvenient Truth’ was premiered at Cannes last month. Good luck to him and Tun. Ciao.
P.S. It is funny that I put Al Gore and Tun in the same category since Tun very much hates the former US vice president.

If you ask me to choose between Pak Lah and Tun, I will still choose Tun. Period.
