To meet or not to meet.

Is it just me or do people like to hold a LOT of meetings nowadays. It seems like the only way for the world leaders to solve the problems around the world is through meetings after meetings. At the end of the day, all these meetings will come out with declarations after declarations. What happen next? Nobody knows. I know that I am just a ‘man on the street’ who knows no details about what happened in all these meetings. And I believe that it is the governments’ job to let us – the man on the street- know how these meetings will help to solve the problems around the world.

Why bother to have a lot of meetings when at the end of the day, they cannot solve the problems? Take ASEAN for example, there had been quite a number of meetings since last year to solve Myanmar problem, but till today, all those meetings bear no fruits. Myanmar Junta government keep on fooling the ASEAN by giving excuses after excuses. Or lets take OIC who after each conference will condemn the US and Israel for all their actions against the Afghans and the Palestinians in its declarations. But, to what extent these declarations will help to alleviate the problems remains unknown.

As we speak, there are three supposedly important meetings in Kuala Lumpur now namely the 39th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting, Post Ministerial Conference, and 13th ASEAN Regional Forum. All these meetings run consecutively one after another. Good luck ASEAN!

“Meetings are an addictive, highly self-indulgent activity that corporations and other large organizations habitually engage in only because they cannot masturbate.” – Dave Barry.
