Pretentious Muslims.

Don’t you think Muslims today are just a bit pretentious? I do. I seriously think that the Muslims today are so afraid that they are not going to heaven and they will do anything to ensure their positions in heaven. Just look around us and you can definitely see that some Muslims are scared of their own shadows. They are afraid that ALLAH might not see their good deeds that they will do just anything to associate themselves with the religion.

Example number one is from the controversial Danish cartoon depicting the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). The whole Muslim world was so mad about the cartoon and I see no problem about being mad. But did we realize that more than half of those people who protested on the streets had never seen the cartoon? How can they be so mad about something that they personally had never seen? It’s like being mad and angry about something but not knowing the reason for that anger. Why were they acting like that? The answer is simple they just want to be associated with ALLAH as much as they can. It doesn’t matter whether they really understand the issue or not, what matters is they showed that they do care about the religion. But then again, whom are they showing it to?

Example number two would be the controversial speech by the Pope. Again, Muslims went out on the streets demanding the Pope to retract his statement and apologize to the Muslim world. Yet how many of them can refute the Pope’s statement? All they care is they have to show that they are angry so that ALLAH will somehow see them defending their religion. I read an article written by a Jew, who really puts things into perspective. He said that although it is true the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) did go out in war, his actions are purely political move – an action to enlarge territorial area. He went on to say that history showed that after the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) had conquered a territory, he had never forced the natives to embrace Islam. This writer compared with the Roman Empire who in their quest to conquer territories after territories, they also force the natives to choose between Christian and death. If only those people were to take a deep breath and research a bit, they might be able to force the Pope to apologize for his mistake of twisting the history.

My suggestion is, if you really want to be pious, start with the basic Islamic way of life and everything else will fall into places. Start with your prayer five times a day then maybe give charity or alms. Trust me, those Islamic preachers did not become pious overnight after protesting at Trafalgar Square. It took them years of understanding and devotion to the religion, which is not difficult considering the fact that Islam is the way of life.

“And spend your substance in the cause of ALLAH, and make not your own hands contribute to your destructions; but do good; for ALLAH loveth those who do good.” – Al-Baqarah, verse 195.
